Faces of Amsterdam
‘Porem van Mokum means Faces of Amsterdam; it is an ode to all people who make Amsterdam to what it is, an alive, dynamical moving city in which we live all year round. A reflection of 'the Amsterdam person', shown in 365 portraits of clay, made by 16 professional sculptors from the region of Amsterdam. Exhibited so you can look at one another quietly.
Portraits The three-dimensional portrait used to be exclusive for laurels, usually from the social elite. Emperors, kings and mayors. In this project people do not need to be part of the elite to deserve a portrait. To be inspiring in society is essential. This portrait gallery will be a representation of all people of Amsterdam. We are all needed and important and can all be an inspiration to others.
Book In the book you will find the backgrounds of the portrayed. We can read what a person means to the city and how Dutch History and World History are intertwined with the people living in this city. These days we label people very easily and this book gives us the opportunity to widen our view.’
